Coal mining in Changlang suspended
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Coal mining at the Namchik-
Responding to a question by senior BJP MLA Japu Deru, state geology and mining minister Kamlung Mosang stated that coal extraction was started in March 2007 by the National Mining Company Ltd of Tinsukia in Assam on the basis of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) through an open tender for extraction of two lakh metric tonnes coal annually.
"Though 133.62 hectares of area was permitted, but extraction was done only in 39.04 hectares inside the reserve forest areas and a quantity of 10,73,00 MT in 62 months before being suspended," Mosang said.
The company was awarded the contract for a period of five years, which was later extended to another two years according to provisions of the MoA, he said.
During the period, the state earned a revenue of 18 crore, the minister told the Assembly.
"I along with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had approached the union Coal Ministry pleading for permitting the state government to extract the balance 20 lakh MT coal as per the MoA," he added.
The Centre had suspended mining operations in the coal field after reports of involvement of both factions of the NSCN in illegal coal extraction. (PTI)

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Spices Board, Itanagar conducted a “Regional Seminar on Large cardamom” at Neelam, Lower Subansiri district yesterday.
More than hundred progressive large cardamom farmers, members of NGOs, farmers clubs, panchayat representatives undertook the training and actively participated in the discussion.
While inaugurating the programme, ZPM Pistana Neelam Mangha requested the participants to take the full advantage of the programme and the knowledge thus gathered to disseminate among the farming community.
In the technical session, Jugal Das, Senior Field Officer, Spices Board, Itanagar explained in details about site selection, planting material production, plantation and pollination management, plant protection measures, harvest and post harvest practices to be adopted for successful large cardamom cultivation along with various developmental schemes of the Spices Board for Arunachal Pradesh.
In her speech, Tasso Yollu, HDO, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh stressed on the need for proper maintenance of plantation and scientific method of cultivation.

Nido Tania’s first death anniversary observed
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Youths and students of Itanagar observed the first death anniversary of Nido Tania under the aegis of All Nyishi Student’s Union (ANSU) today evening. A prayer meeting was held and the candle light march started from Akashdeep and concluded at ANSU office late in the evening.
Tania was a first year BA student in a private university in New Delhi who was attacked by shopkeepers after an altercation over their remarks on his hair style on 29th January 2014.

The High Court had later issued notices to the CBI and the accused and asked them to file their replies within two weeks. The Court directed Tihar Jail Superintendent to serve notice on one of the accused, Farman, who is at present in judicial custody. Justice Manmohan Singh of the High Court posted the matter for further hearing on April 22 after issuing notices. Inculcate a sense of discipline, spirit of tolerance: Governor
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today urged upon the students to prepare themselves for the responsibilities that lie ahead. He said that to face the future with confidence and fulfilling the dream of modern India, the students must inculcate in themselves a sense of discipline, a spirit of tolerance, a quest for knowledge, a positive mind and respect for fellow human beings. The Governor was addressing the students at the annual prize giving ceremony in Ramakrishna Mission School, Narottam Nagar, Tirap district today.
The Governor pointed that discipline leads to respect for each other, which in turn creates peace and harmony in the campus and in the society. It helps to grow as a responsible and responsive citizen. He asked the students to be inquisitive.
Emphasizing that excellence is the key, the Governor said that in today’s world, mediocrity has no value. Strive to be excellent and best in whatever field you choose. He advised the students not to be trapped by dogma and to follow own heart and intuition.

PPA opposes privatization of Education sector
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The PPA, the lone regional political party of the state has vehemently criticized the ‘mindless privatization of university’ in the state.
Addressing the meeting convened to discuss introduction of “the Global University Arunachal Pradesh Bill, 2015” in the assembly, PPA president Kahfa Bengia said the state is young and is still in the stage of making. To introduce private universities at this juncture is to open the floodgates of commercialization of education sector, Bengia said.
The party said commoditization of education may lead to the excessive emphasis on skill, employment and corporate oriented education at the cost of basic sciences and the vast pool of traditional knowledge.
“In USA and UK drive for efficiency and profits are categorically powerful among the private higher education providers. But in developing countries like India, only profit factor drives these institutes and efficiency is poorly neglected. Private institutes have their focus on quantity but not in quality. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and debated at length involving academicians, student bodies and other civil organizations. Privatization of Universities should be opted in a phased manner, if at all required.” The state has no dearth of students unions and it is painful to see these organizations keeping mum on issues directly related to the interest of the students’ carrier,” added Kaling Jerang, Secretary General, PPA.

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Adi Students Union (AdiSU) has blamed the ‘ill-
“The Fire Station is hardly 300 meters away from the school but the fire fighters with fire tender took 45 minutes to reach the spot after being informed about the fire accident,” AdiSU alleged in a release. Moreover, the fire tender carried only about 200 liters of water for which the brigade had to fill the tank thrice, it said.
AdiSU team also claimed to have found during its visit to the fire station today morning that the 3000 liters capacity tanker was lying empty and the water tankers are being used for domestic purpose.
AdiSU demanded the Deputy Commissioner to take prompt initiative by providing funds from the government for renovation of the damaged school building, and employ night watchman in every school in East Siang to avoid such incidents in future.
It further demanded the authorities concerned for early construction of toilets, provide water supply facility at Government Gandhi Secondary School, Pasighat and early completion of the unfinished school buildings under RMSA scheme.
The union also appealed to the authority concerned to take action against all the land encroachers of GTC School, Pasighat.

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today informed the state assembly that Pasighat, Balijan and Tezu is being considered as proposed site for establishing the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the state. Responding to the question raised by BJP MLA Tumke Bagra, whether Basar or Aalo will get AIIMS, Tuki stated these three locations were selected keeping in mind the air connectivity these places will have in the future.
“ALGs of Pasighat and Tezu are upgraded and green field airport is coming up at Hollongi near Balijan. High quality institutes like AIIMS needed air connectivity as experts keep visiting for various research related work,” said Tuki. However he added that Basar will definitely be considered in future for setting up central institute as it is a centrally located town and is one of the most beautiful parts of state.
Tuki also told the house that from next year onwards catchment area admission system will be stopped and colleges of Arunachal will take admission purely on merit basis. “This will not only help in integration of young Arunachalees but also respect their hard work and talent,” Tuki added.

Improve air connectivity
Lack of proper air connectivity has been a major cause of concern for the people of state. Total dependency on roads for communication creates trouble especially during monsoon season. The upgradation process of the Advance Landing Grounds (ALGs) at Ziro, Pasighat, Aalo, Tuting, Mechuka, Vijaynagar and Walong is going on at snail pace. Also there is no update about the progress of the proposed green field airport at Hollongi.
Civil Aviation Minister A. Gajapathi Raju yesterday visited Tezu town to assess the construction work of the ongoing Tezu airport work being undertaken by Airport Authority of India at an estimated cost of about Rs 96.5 crore. Talking about benefits of having an Airport, the union minister spoke about the "multiplier" effect it has on the economy. Minister has hit the right note and naturally people of state are now hopeful that under his guidance air connectivity will improve in Arunachal. Especially civil aviation ministry should expedite green field airport project at the earliest for the benefit of the people of state.

It is extremely hard for me to believe that former Minister of Arunachal Setong Sena has passed away. Sudden, untimely demise has really shocked everyone. His untimely death is a great blow and a big loss for the whole state as we have lost a good and influential leader.
As I heard the news of his death, it was one of the most bitter moments of my life.
From the very day, he became the representative as the MLA of 51-
I will not make the list of his developmental works, but it is visible that our people and place witnessed remarkable changes in every spheres during his tenure. His sacrifice and forward looking works for our peoples will always be remembered and treasured for ever more. Moreover, his name and his deeds will always remain in our hearts.
We have nothing to give you back but I am sure your reward will be given in heavenly abode. All I want to say is a big “Thank you’’ to him.

reality is that in a final sitting on 29th November’ 2014, representatives and general

District Headquarter were local committees. These committees were not constituted

Lower the fare
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteem daily, I would like to draw your attention regarding the Sumo transportation fare from capital, Itanagar to the remote areas of state like Sarli, Koloriang, Nyapin and Sangram in Kurung Kumey District which is becoming an acute problem. The hardest hit is the common people who have limited income and also students who belong to poor families but forced to study in Itanagar. The above mentioned places are one the remotest areas in the state. There is less sources of income so most of the people are living below poverty line. Therefore, they cannot afford the high charges of Tata Sumo fare. So, it is appealed to the taxi and Tata Sumo authorities to take necessary steps for the convenience of public because the prices of petrol and diesel have fallen slightly.

Declare result
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to appeal to the Department of Urban Development and Housing to declare the result of walk in interview for various posts under National Urban Livelihood Mission. As days are passing, our hope for fair selection is getting doubtful. Already many candidates have been allowed to take part in the interview though they do not possess required academic qualification and experience. Department has clearly mention that three or five years experience is required for every post but the irony is that even fresher’s who had just passed out were also allowed to appear for interview. Such instances create doubt whether department is going to select deserving candidate or interview was just an eye wash.
